Oil Kills People

Oil prices have jumped up to a peak again, near US$84 a barrel, since October 2008. According to the news, there are mainly two reasons why the oil prices become higher. Firstly and most importantly, Chinese oil imports data of last December was strong. Secondly, the freezingly cold weather attacking the northern hemisphere has increased the demand for the oil.

Fossil oil does kill people. From ancient times, there have been always two ways for fossil oil to kill people. One is being drunk carelessly and the other is explosion. But I think in the modern society, especially nowadays, the fossil oil has a new way to "kill" people--its high price. Because of the high price, many Chinese young people are afraid to buy a car. And for many young people in the city in China, if they want to marry their lovers and to form a family, cars and houses are considered very seriously. Since most of them are not financially capable enough to buy a car, the marriage would probably be delayed, or even cancelled. In fact, some girls give up their lovers exactly because of their boyfriends with no car or house. Therefore, the high price of the fossil oil has detroyed some young people's love invisibly.

Moreover, because of the high price, many factories in China should limit their scales of manufacture and some even are shut down. As a result, the workers lose their jobs. Their financial resource has been cut off. Then, they might not have enough money to purchase necessary daily things related to fossil oil such as petrol. They might suffer from the cold in winter, and sweat more in summer. The high price of fossil oil seems to add difficulties to their hard life. Conclusively, the high prices of fossil oil DO trouble people, and might even "kill" people--let them feel depressed, and people might...suicide...

Therefore, how to reduce the prices of oil and to keep them stable is really an urgent problem for government lah...

  1. I agree with you that the high price of oil could sometimes "kill" people, and I also would like to add some of my own points of view.
I think the reasons stated in the article are biased and not comprehensive. Continual conflicts in main oil-producing countries and the increasing petroleum reserve of America are also two other important reasons.
You just did an excellent job in discussing part. However, you could say some your suggestion or solution to solve the problem as an ending.

  2. I also agree that the high price of the fossil oil cause a lot of problems not only people's own personal life but also the related industries. I think if the price keeps increasing till it is nearly unaffordable for ordinary people, it will surely become a risk or disaster to the global economy. In the market economy, everything in the market actually is connected tightly. Once the price of oil is inclining dramatically, the price of some relavant products will be affected as well.In other words, actually the expensive price of oil is remarkably killing the purchasing power of cousumers and reducing the producing efficiency of the whole society as well. So some practicaland effective measures should be taken to avoid that kind of miserable situation occuring.
